CE Presentation - Ethics

DEABA

11.18.2021

Virtual CE event with presenter Josefien O’Regan, BCBA

On November 18, 2021, sixteen attendees participated in DEABA’s virtual CE event with presenter Josefien O’Regan, BCBA. Ms. O’Regan is a Clinical Manager at Brightbloom Centers, and in addition to her role as a Lead Therapist, she is Brightbloom’s Ethics Officer. Ms. O’Regan’s presentation, “The Impact of Ethical Decision-Making in Client Care: Future BACB Ethics Requirements,” introduced participants to changes in the Ethics Code for BCBAs, BCaBAs, and RBTs. The updates replace the 2014 Professional and Ethical Compliance Code for Behavior Analysts applicants and certificants. Ms. O’Regan reminded the group that the BACB advises that lack of awareness of understanding of an ethical standard is not a defense against alleged ethics violations and that we all have a responsibility to the profession to support and foster adherence to the Code, despite our different professional roles. In her presentation, Ms. O’Regan reviewed Bailey’s 4 Core Principles that apply to ethical decision-making and provided participants with a detail of the current code section-by-section and presented the changes side-by-side that will be in effect as of January 1, 2022. Ms. O’Regan was an interesting and engaging presenter, and her topic was especially pertinent given the 2022 transition!
